Growing More Than a Garden

Our gardening program has been such a beautiful addition to our Primary classrooms! With Morah Na'Imah leading the way, our children have been spending time outdoors, getting their hands in the soil, and discovering all that Hashem's world has to offer.

While gardening has always been part of CMCH, this year we've made it a more intentional part of our curriculum, with planned lessons that build on one another. Rather than simply planting and watering, children are learning to observe changes, ask questions, understand what plants need to grow, and take responsibility for caring for something over time.

Gardening brings together so many areas of Montessori learning: science, Practical Life, sensory exploration, language, and even math. It also reflects an important part of Montessori philosophy: learning to respect and care for our environment and the community around us. As children tend to their gardens, they develop an appreciation for Hashem's beautiful world and begin to understand their own responsibility in caring for it.

And, of course, gardening teaches something that can't always be learned in a single lesson: patience, consistency, and the satisfaction of watching your hard work grow.

We're loving seeing the children take ownership of their gardens, and we can't wait to see what grows next!
