Growing Readers in Full Bloom

Our Growing Readers Book Fair was a joyful celebration of stories, community, and the love of reading we are nurturing together at CMCH. Throughout the week, students experienced books in meaningful and memorable ways, showing us just how powerful it is when school and home partner to plant the seeds for a lifelong love of reading.

We kicked off the week with an unforgettable Author Day, featuring a special read-aloud by Mr. Michael, CMCH’s very first music teacher and co-author of Pete the Cat. His visit set the tone for Book Fair Week, filling the room with music, stories, and excitement!

On our Family Shopping Days, parents and children browsed the fair together, selecting books side by side and sharing in the joy of reading. From choosing favorite stories to receiving special goodie bags, the afternoon highlighted how reading grows strongest when families are actively involved.

Mystery Reader Day Highlight: Amos and Emunah’s Bubbe joined us all the way from Australia!

Mystery Reader Day brought extra excitement as parent and family volunteers surprised classrooms with storytime visits. These meaningful moments showed our children that the adults in their lives truly value reading, helping bring our home–school partnership full circle.

The week concluded with Independent Shopping Day, when our primary students confidently chose books on their own. One especially heartwarming moment came from Nachi Rahmani (Ladybugs), who proudly shared that he used his money to “buy a book to read to my baby at home!” Moments like these beautifully captured the purpose of the week; growing independence, thoughtfulness, and a genuine love of reading.

All week long, our Growing Reading Tree filled with leaves sent in from home, each representing time spent reading together. Watching the tree grow served as a powerful visual reminder of our shared commitment to nurturing readers both at home and at school.

A heartfelt thank you to Bracha Yurkowicz, our incredible Event Chair, and Sara Chazanow and Tirzah Ciment, our dedicated Co-PTA Presidents, for leading this special week.

Thank you as well to every parent who participated by joining shopping days, purchasing books, sending in reading leaves, volunteering as Mystery Readers, and helping stock our classroom libraries.

Together, we are truly growing readers and cultivating a love of stories that will last a lifetime.
