Classroom Chronicles: Finding Our Rhythm
And just like that… we’re back!
The first days of a new school year are all about finding our rhythm—meeting new Morahs and friends, exploring new classrooms, learning routines, and remembering where everything goes. (The children are getting there. The grown-ups are too.)
Across CMCH, our classrooms have been busy settling in, reconnecting, exploring, creating, and… most importantly… having fun together. Here’s a little peek at what our first days have looked like!
🐥 Darling Ducks
Our littlest (and newest!) CMCH friends have been busy getting to know their Morahs, their classroom, and one another. They’re already getting hands-on with Practical Life: this week, the Ducks used an apple cutter to prepare their own snack and then proudly handed it out to their friends. Tiny hands, very important jobs!
🐣 Chickadees
The Chicks jumped into the year with plenty of creativity, fresh air, and Rosh Hashanah fun. They experimented with apple stamping, spent lots of time outside, and began getting comfortable with the routines and rhythms of their new classroom.
🐛 Caterpillars
The Caterpillars have been creating, reading, exploring, and soaking up plenty of sunshine with friends. A highlight was making their very own crowns for our King in the Field activity—and, naturally, they were more than happy to show them off!
🐸 Friendly Frogs
The Frogs jumped (we had to!) right back into their Montessori work cycles. They’ve been reconnecting with familiar materials, exploring new work, enjoying time outside, and getting comfortable together as a classroom community.
🐞 Lovely Ladybugs
The Ladybugs have spent these first days building their classroom community through work, play, stories, projects, and plenty of outdoor adventures. They’re learning the flow of their days, reconnecting with friends, and becoming more independent with each new routine.
🐝 Busy Bees
The Bees have certainly lived up to their name! Their days have been filled with purposeful classroom work, creative exploration, time with friends, and lots of opportunities to move and play outside. They’re already beginning to find their groove and make their classroom feel like home.
🌼 Daisies
Our Daisy Program is our afternoon program designed to give our younger Primary children a relaxed, developmentally appropriate transition after their morning Montessori work cycle. The afternoons include extra outdoor time and free play, group experiences, stories, music and movement, seasonal projects, and lots of opportunities to practice independence and social skills.
These first few weeks are especially focused on settling into routines, building comfort and confidence, and learning how to navigate the afternoon together. Our Daisies are off to a joyful start!
💡 Parent Pro Tip: Skip “How Was School?”
As everyone settles into their new classrooms, try swapping the classic “How was school today?” for something a little more specific. You may be surprised by how much more you hear!
Try:
“What work did you choose today?”
“Who did you play with outside?”
“What made you laugh today?”
“Did you help anyone today?”
“What was something new you tried?”
“What was your favorite part of your classroom today?”
And if the answer is still “I don’t know”? Totally normal. Sometimes the best school stories appear approximately 45 minutes later, while you’re making dinner and no one has asked. 😉
