A Note from Dassie’s Desk
Dear Parents,
I love when preschool finally starts! The days preceding opening, not so much. I feel anxious and nervous… and I’m waiting for it to just start already!!! I’m hoping that parents like their class placement. I worry that all my staff will arrive on day one. I’m nervous for my staff to be happy. Once it begins, it’s busy and there is so much to do, but the anxiety subsides.
It kind of reminds me of how the children feel when a parent walks them into class and they know Mom or Dad is about to leave, but is waiting around for a little while to help them ease in. As much as that works for the beginning days, it can also make them anxious because they already know you will be leaving. The time of knowing you will be leaving, but not leaving yet, can cause more anxiety than the leaving itself.
I have been so proud of our parents this year for knowing that a few minutes of settling them in is great, and then a swift goodbye is best, even though they may cry at the time. You have helped us tremendously with transitioning your children and giving them a good start.
The crying can be a lot at drop-off, but it literally lasts for three minutes, and the rest of the day is really beautiful. Of course, there are some sad moments here and there, as is normal, but there is also so much trust in their Morahs and parents.
Thank you for your help in making this such a smooth start!
With Yom Tov around the corner, please bear with us through this longer transition period in the beginning, until the children really get settled after Sukkot.
I hope you can see all these cute, joyful faces, busy with so many great experiences. Our school looks and feels fabulous! Kudos to our staff and parents.
Looking forward to an amazing year.
With love,
Dassie
